Jennifer Pluznick

Professor

Jen Pluznick is a Professor of Physiology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (Baltimore, MD).  She received her Ph.D. in Renal Physiology from the University of Nebraska Medical Center (Omaha, NE) in 2005. During her postdoctoral training at Yale University (New Haven, CT) she studied both renal physiology and sensory biology systems (in particular, olfaction).  Jen is interested in better understanding the roles of “understudied” G-protein coupled receptors in the kidney, and in uncovering how these receptors aid the kidney in the maintenance of homeostasis.  The Pluznick Lab has found that a number of these “understudied” receptors are activated by microbial metabolites, and thus Jen also has a strong interest in how gut microbial signals can influence kidney and cardiovascular function.  Outside the lab, she enjoys music (especially singing in a local chorus, and playing in a local orchestra), as well as reading books, kayaking/paddleboarding in the warmer months, and spending time with family and friends.
